The group of colleagues looking into this have conducted some student
voice to review pupil attitudes to risk taking, growth mind set, resilience and
self belief. The results are shown in the series of pictures below.

Following on from the survey results colleagues have been trialing strategies to support pupils in improving their perception of their work. It was identified that there was a need to promote risk-taking in lessons.
'From the survey we found that often students would rather take risks on aspects of their personal lives rather than in school. Unsurprisingly students would rather listen to instructions on learning a new skill or topic rather than trying something out for the first time'
In history SGY has developed some starter questioning to stretch pupils.
This provides more opportunity for risk taking, giving pupils the control over
how far they feel comfortable to stretch themselves (see grid picture
below).
The impact of grid reflection:
•Students choose their own path
•Challenge is there
•Easily adapted and modified to suit
topics/teaching styles
BUT
•Can still choose easy options
•Time consuming
•Confidence crisis
